Eight Cornell poultry experts chosen for international honor

Six faculty members and two alumni of Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine have been chosen as inaugural inductees into the World Veterinary Poultry Association’s new Hall of Honour.
All told, 52 scientists worldwide will be inducted in August; 17 are from the United States. Inductees were chosen from among the world’s veterinarians and poultry veterinary scientists for their exceptional contributions to poultry health.
The chosen Cornellians are:
- Karel Schat, D.V.M, Ph.D. ’78, faculty emeritus;
- P. Philip Levine, M.S. ’32, D.V.M ’32, Ph.D. ’37, late faculty emeritus;
- Julius Fabricant, V.M.D, Ph.D. ’50, faculty emeritus;
- Bruce Calnek, D.V.M. ’55, faculty emeritus;
- Stephen Hitchner, V.M.D, late faculty emeritus;
- Benjamin Lucio-Martinez, D.V.M., late faculty emeritus;
- Hiram Lasher, D.V.M. ’42, chosen posthumously; and
- Richard Witter, D.V.M, Ph.D. ’64.
