TIAA-CREF leader gives Durland Lecture Oct. 17

Roger W. Ferguson Jr., president and CEO of TIAA-CREF, will deliver the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management’s 26th Durland Lecture Thursday, Oct. 17, at 4:30 p.m. in 305 Ives Hall. Free and open to the public.

TIAA-CREF is the leading provider of retirement services to the academic, research, medical and cultural fields and a Fortune 100 financial services organization. In his talk, “Rebuilding Trust in the Financial Services Industry: The Way Forward,” Ferguson will offer his perspective on the role of financial services today.

Ferguson is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the academy’s Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences. He has served on the board of directors of International Flavors and Fragrances Inc. since 2010, has been a member of President Barack Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness since 2011 and also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. Ferguson holds a B.A., M.A., a Ph.D. in economics and a J.D. from Harvard University.

The Durland Lecture series was initiated in 1983 by Roy H. Park and a group of donors. Durland lecturers have included Thomas W. Jones, co-chairman and CEO of Citigroup’s SSB Citi Asset Management Group; Abby Joseph Cohen, managing director of Goldman, Sachs and Co.; Mark Bertolini, CEO of Aetna; and Lucio A. Noto, chairman and CEO of Mobil Corp.
