Conversations explore staff connectedness at Cornell

A series of hourlong, informal “Staff Conversations” between Cornell staff members and Human Resources and Employee Assembly leaders began Oct. 15 and will continue throughout the fall semester at locations across the Ithaca and Geneva campuses. The conversations encourage participants to assess and share their sense of belonging and connectedness at Cornell.

The series is led by Mary Opperman, vice president and chief human resources officer; Craig Wiggers, director of administration in the Department of Physics and chair of the Employee Assembly; and Reginald White, senior director of human resource strategy. The conversations will help these leaders better understand where their organizations’ efforts are having an impact and where they need to be improved to enhance the workplace climate at Cornell, as well as identify areas of interest for staff across campus.

Dialogue will center around four questions:

  • What helps or hinders your sense of connectedness on campus?
  • What systems or processes are currently in place to help you feel connected to Cornell?
  • What have you done or might you do to create a sense of connected community at Cornell?
  • What advice or recommendations do you have for Human Resources or the Employee Assembly?
