Startup Cornell podcast guest works to make healthcare more accessible
By Kathy Hovis
The 14th episode of a podcast hosted by Entrepreneurship at Cornell, Startup Cornell, features David Stein MBA ‘20, co-founder and CEO of Ash Wellness, a company that makes healthcare more accessible and inclusive by offering at-home testing kits.
The company started offering kits for sexually-transmitted diseases, but has expanded to offer tests for hormones, metabolism, thyroid and numerous other conditions, as well as screenings and routine testing needed to manage chronic conditions.
He and his partners launched the business from Cornell Tech in New York City.
“None of us have traditional medical backgrounds, but we all had personal pain points in accessing sexual health services,” Stein said.
The Startup Cornell podcast, which launched in summer 2021, features interviews with young Cornell entrepreneurs, who tell their stories of successes and failures and offer actionable advice for building and growing a business. It’s available on the Entrepreneurship at Cornell website, as well as Apple podcasts, Spotify and Soundcloud. It’s being created with help from Bert Odom-Reed of the Cornell Broadcast Studios and edited by Abigail Younger.
Past guests have included Jehron Petty ‘20, founder and CEO of ColorStack; Jamie Kim ’19, founder and CEO of Jamie’s Farm, JP Pollak '00, MS '08, PhD '11, co-founder and chief architect at The Commons Project Foundation and Stephanie Wisner ’16, co-founder of Centivax.
