Life Science Core Day, taking place Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in room G10 of the Biotechnology Building, offers Cornell researchers a chance to explore an extraordinary range of specialized life science core facilities, technologies, and expertise available to them from across campus in one place. 

Hosted by the Biotechnology Resource Center (BRC), the inaugural event brings together representatives from core facilities with faculty, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students to meet and learn about available technologies and services, ask questions, and discover resources that could support current or future research. 

“Cornell has an incredible depth of research resources, but it’s not always obvious where to find the expertise or technology you need,” said Julie Sahler, user interface lead at the BRC and the director of the Flow Cytometry facility. “Life Science Core Day is an opportunity to put those resources in one place, meet the people who know them best and start conversations that could open new possibilities for your research.” 

Participating facilities span a broad range of research capabilities, including genomics, epigenomics, proteomics and metabolomics, flow cytometry, imaging, bioinformatics, advanced computing, materials research, statistical consulting, animal resources and more. 

It will also highlight resources that can help researchers support and move discoveries toward commercialization and connect with life science industry. 

The event may be particularly useful for faculty and researchers that are new to Cornell or beginning a new project, but all are welcome. 

“Whether you have a project that needs immediate support or simply want to learn more about Cornell’s research capabilities, there’s value in making these connections,” Sahler said. “You may discover resources or support you can use tomorrow, or one you’ll be glad you know about for a future research question.”
