Five Cornell scientists in disciplines ranging from crop improvement to robotics will present their research at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, Feb. 17-21 in Washington, D.C.

AAAS is an international nonprofit organization and professional association that seeks to "advance science, engineering and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people." It publishes the prestigious journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports.

Cornell's invited speakers are:

Edward S. Buckler, adjunct professor of plant breeding and genetics, who will present "Dissecting the Genetics of Complex Agronomic Traits for Crop Improvement," Feb. 19;

Janis L. Dickinson, associate professor of natural resources, who will present "Citizen Science at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology," Feb. 20;

Hod Lipson, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and computing and information science, who will give two talks: "Self-Reflective Machines" on Feb. 19, and "Digital Bioprinting" on Feb. 21;

Susan McCouch, professor of plant breeding and genetics, who will present "Discovery of Genes for Crop Improvement From Wild Ancestor Plants," Feb. 19; and

Mariana Wolfner, professor of molecular biology and genetics, who will present "Seminal Proteins from Male Insects Affect Mated Females' Behavior and Reproduction," Feb. 21.
