Weekly faculty rental apartments available at Cornell Tech
In an effort to facilitate academic collaboration in New York City, Provost Michael Kotlikoff has announced that weekly apartment rentals in The House at Cornell Tech, the residential building on Roosevelt Island, will be available beginning Aug. 20.
“We have consistently heard from faculty that short- or even long-term collaborations with colleagues in New York City have been hampered by the difficulty in finding affordable accommodations,” Kotlikoff said. “The apartments in The House on Roosevelt Island will begin to address those concerns and support cross-campus academic work.”
Furnished apartments will be available for weekly rental to Cornell University faculty and academic researchers as well as university leadership engaging in collaborations with New York City-based Cornell programs. Requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
All renters will be required to have a Cornell University business purpose and provide a university account number (to which the weekly rent will be charged) to request a rental. There will not be an option to stay for personal purposes and/or to pay as an individual. Renters will be asked to present a Cornell University ID upon check-in at The House at Cornell Tech.
Apartment rentals are on a weekly basis only, from Sunday afternoon (arrival after 3 p.m.) through Saturday morning (departure by noon). Renters may stay for less than a week, but rent will not be pro-rated for shorter stays. Maximum length of stay is four months, assuming the collaboration or business purpose is maintained throughout the rental period.
Eleven units are available and rent is based on apartment size. The rates for Aug. 20 to June 30, 2018:
- 1 bedroom, $900 per week,
- studio, $800 per week and
- micro studio, $700 per week.
More information about the building and its amenities can be found here.
Rental requests must be submitted at least two business days and no more than two months before intended arrival date. To request a rental, email nyc.apt@cornell.edu. Requests will be managed by the Office of Residential and Events Services based in Ithaca.
