College of Human Ecology celebrates staff achievements
By
College of Human Ecology faculty and staff gathered Oct. 16 for their annual Service Awards and Staff Recognition Ceremony, to honor staff who achieved milestone years of service and to recognize those designated for their exceptional contributions to the college in the last year.
This year, 36 employees received milestone certificates. As a group, the honorees have provided more than 500 years of service to Cornell.
Additionally, nine staff members were recognized for service above and beyond their roles, providing exceptional contributions and helping advance the mission of the college. This year, one team and six individuals were nominated. Members of the Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit – Lynn Johnson, Erika Mudrak and Stephen Parry – were nominated as a team; individual nominees included Marianne Arcangeli, Madjabi Castrejon, Eric Maroney, Helen McLallen, Karen Snyder and Jennifer Wright.
Maroney, graduate field assistant in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management, received the top Recognition Award.
Maroney’s colleagues noted that he helps the administrative team be stronger because he encourages and supports fellow staff, contributing daily to a positive work environment. This year, he went above and beyond, crafting a nearly 50-page manual for PAM doctoral students, compiling all the information, timelines, expectations, resources and advice for these students in a single document. He was also recognized for his diplomatic skills, resolving high stress and sometimes delicate situations.
Congratulations to all nominees and award winners.
Lucy Pola is assistant director for human resources in the College of Human Ecology.
