Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) has appointed Vicki Giarratano critical issue lead for extension programming in community and economic vitality programs, effective October 1. This two-year appointment reflects CCE's dedication to leveraging campus resources and CCE educators and collaborators across the state, to ensure that needs are met and benchmarks for work are identified. 

As critical issue lead, Giarratano oversees programs aimed at enhancing community resilience, fostering economic growth, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices. Giarratano will also oversee relevant program planning considerations, including statewide efforts for assessing needs, evaluation strategies, and Federal Capacity Fund proposal reviews. Giarratano will continue to serve in her role as statewide assistant director for agriculture and food systems.  

Giarratano brings extensive experience and a deep commitment to community engagement and agricultural development. Since joining the County Extension System in 1998, she has made significant contributions to youth development, economic development, and agriculture business development. She has served within CCE as a youth educator, executive director, and assistant director for food systems. Among other responsibilities, Giarratano supports local food systems by strengthening farmers’ markets and leading efforts around the Taste NY Welcome Centers and commercial kitchens.
