Caitlin Hayes is a senior staff writer at the Cornell Chronicle, covering sustainability and impact.
I joined the Chronicle in 2022 to help cover life sciences while increasing coverage of student stories, from featuring outstanding students to the contributions of student groups. In 2025, I shifted to covering sustainability and community impact and engagement, a new Chronicle beat that focuses on stories about the difference Cornell students, researchers and extension staff make locally, in New York state or around the world.
I started at Cornell in 2016 as a writer for the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation and also worked as communications specialist at the Center for Teaching Innovation.
Prior to Cornell, I taught English and writing at the secondary and college levels.
