Anthony Ong, Cornell assistant professor of human development in the College of Human Ecology, has been awarded the 2008 Springer Early Career Achievement Award in Research on Adult Development and Aging, from the American Psychological Association's (APA) Division of Adult Development and Aging.

This award, which will be presented at this year's annual APA convention, Aug. 14-17, in Boston, is given to "an individual whose work has made significant early career contributions to understanding critical issues in the psychology of adult development and aging."

Ong, who joined the Cornell faculty in 2006, studies the socio-emotional, cognitive and cultural resources that people draw upon to adapt to stressful life circumstances as they age. A central goal of his work is to understand how certain individuals show maintenance, recovery or even improvements in adaptive outcomes despite the presence of challenge and adversity.

Based in Washington, D.C., the APA is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. With 148,000 members, APA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide.
