JumpStart grants awarded to three New York state companies

Three New York state companies have received Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) JumpStart grants this fall. JumpStart assists small businesses with developing and improving their products through university collaborations.
Projects receive up to $5,000 in matching funds to cover such costs as faculty and research staff, facilities, services, supplies and materials. Close to 60 companies have benefited from JumpStart since its inception.
This fall’s recipients are:
- Incodema3D Inc., of Ithaca. The company will work with Shefford Baker, associate professor of materials science and engineering, to characterize the physical properties of several metallic materials made into test specimens by an additive 3-D manufacturing process.
- Molaire Consulting LLC, of Rochester. The collaboration will be with Brett Fors, assistant professor of chemistry and chemical biology, to synthesize four new molecular glass materials for use in organic light-emitting diode applications. The new materials will be characterized and tested for thermal, electrical and photo-physical properties.
- Shadetree Innovation, of Marcy. Shadetree will collaborate with Matt Ulinski, Master of Engineering committee chair in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, to develop a device for installation between a bathroom shower and supply pipe that will conserve water and energy.
The JumpStart program is funded by the Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation.
