Susanne M. Bruyère has been named associate dean of outreach at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Her three-year term began this month. Bruyère also continues as director of the Employment and Disability Institute (EDI), a unit in the ILR School's extension division that she has led since 1991.
Cornell ILR Dean Harry Katz said of Bruyère's new appointment: "Susanne has done a marvelous job building a dynamic program through EDI. I look forward to drawing on her many talents to expand and improve the ILR School's activities in the arenas of policy and practice."
Bruyère noted, "This is a very exciting time for ILR, and I am delighted and honored to be able to work with Dean Katz and the school's many outstanding faculty and staff to address contemporary workplace issues in the U.S. and globally.
In her new position, she will provide strategic guidance to the ILR extension division, its marketing and communication efforts, and other school outreach activities. They include programs, centers and institutes that offer training, research, technical assistance and consulting for employers and employees throughout New York state, the United States and worldwide.
In addition to those duties and her leadership of EDI -- which enhances the opportunities of people with disabilities through research, programs, publications, projects and technical assistance -- Bruyère is director and a co-principal investigator of numerous EDI research projects. She also has served as project director, and a principal investigator, of key employment disability nondiscrimination studies.
Bruyère holds a doctoral degree in rehabilitation counseling psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and master's degrees from the University of Southern California, in rehabilitation counseling; and Seattle University, in public administration and in adult education. She is a fellow in the American Psychological Association and the current chair of the Global Applied Disability Research and Information Network on Employment and Training, among other volunteer positions.
