Sarah E. Thomas, the Carl A. Kroch University Librarian at Cornell, was named by the New York State Board of Regents to the Regents Commission on Library Services May 12. The commission will articulate a vision for library service in the next century and develop and recommend a plan for ensuring equal access to information for all New Yorkers, according to Janet M. Walsh, state librarian and assistant commissioner for libraries.
Janet Steiner, director of Tompkins County Public Library, will also serve on the Regents Commission.
"Members of the Commission on Library Services will take the first broad examination of library services in the state since 1981," said Walsh. "The results will provide a framework to guide the state's libraries into the next century."
