National Chemistry Week to be celebrated at Pyramid Mall, Nov. 7
By David Brand
The Cornell section of the American Chemical Society will impart a secret of the Alaskan pipeline, make wiggly worms, melt Styrofoam and turn polystyrene cups into hats at the Pyramid Mall in Lansing Nov. 7.
The occasion will be National Chemistry Week, an annual outreach program sponsored by the American Chemical Society to enhance the public's awareness of the contributions that chemistry makes to society.
The Cornell section, composed of faculty and students from Cornell and Ithaca College, will hold a series of demonstrations, hands-on activities and give-aways for people of all ages, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the mall. Other demonstrations will enable shoppers to measure rubber resilience using a "bouncemeter," see how fabrics are made stain resistant and learn about the mysteries of the common cabbage.
