Cornell Political Forum wins national award for student magazines

The Cornell Political Forum's quarterly magazine, a nonpartisan political journal produced by undergraduate students, has been honored with a Silver Crown Award by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA).

The award recognizes the magazine as one of the top five college publications in the country.

The Cornell Political Forum was previously honored by CSPA with a 1998 Gold Medal award, a 1993 Gold Crown award and a 1996 Silver Crown award. It also earned two All-Columbian honors from CSPA in 1998 for superior achievement in the design and creativity categories.

Members of the forum's editorial board who contributed to winning the 1999 award were Matthew E. Wexler, 1998-99 editor in chief; Catherine Biondo, 1997-98 editor in chief; Amy Stewart and Lillian Tsu, managing editors; Christina Hughes, layout editor; Daniel Gingerich and Tara Das, artwork editors; and Parviz Parvizi, copy editor.

In addition to publishing the magazine, the Cornell Political Forum sponsors panels and debates on important issues like international affairs, affirmative action and civil rights.

The forum receives funding from the Student Assembly Finance Commission, the Einaudi Center for International Studies, the vice president for student and academic services and the Adelphic Cornell Educational Fund.

The CSPA has been owned and operated by Columbia University since 1925 and functions as an educational press organization providing services to student newspapers, magazines and yearbooks.
