Cornell's statutory colleges to hold fall open house and information session for new and transfer students
By Blaine Friedlander
Cornell University's statutory colleges will hold an open house for prospective freshmen students on Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999. They also will hold an information session for prospective transfer students on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999. Students interested in learning about admission to the state-assisted colleges at Cornell are encouraged to attend.
The open house will provide high school juniors, seniors and their parents the opportunity to visit Cornell's New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Human Ecology and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Visitors will receive an overview of the university and academic programs in the three colleges. High school students and their parents are invited to campus to meet admissions staff, faculty and current Cornell students. The program will include admissions and financial aid information.
The transfer session is for college students interested in continuing their education at Cornell. The statutory colleges will discuss general academic information and transfer admissions policies. Students can attend a class, meet with faculty members, join currently enrolled students for lunch, and talk with admissions representatives.
A wide range of programs are offered in the three colleges. In the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, students can select from agricultural and biological engineering, animal sciences, applied economics and business management, atmospheric science, biological sciences, biometry and statistics, communications, crop and soil science, education, entomology, food science, landscape architecture, natural resources, nutrition, food and agriculture, plant sciences, rural sociology, science of Earth systems and special agricultural programs.
The College of Human Ecology offerings include apparel design, apparel and textile management, biology and society, facility planning and management, fiber science, human biology, health and society, human development, human factors and ergonomics, interior design, nutritional sciences, and policy analysis and management.
The School of Industrial and Labor Relations offers programs in personnel and human resource management, economics and social statistics, labor economics, organizational behavior, international and comparative labor relations, collective bargaining, labor law and labor movement.
Students interested in attending either the open house or the transfer session are required to pre-register. Registration forms are available from high school guidance counselors, two-year college counseling offices or from the statutory colleges of Cornell. Registration forms will be accepted through Oct. 16 for the open house and through Nov. 1 for the transfer day.
