Alumni trustee nominees: The Cornell Alumni Federation's Committee on Alumni Trustee Nominations has endorsed and nominated four candidates to run for election in 2000 for two seats as alumni trustees on the Cornell Board of Trustees. The candidates on the ballot are: John E. Alexander, '74 AB, '76 MBA, Ithaca; Bjorn R.L. Hanson, '73 B.S. Hotel, New York City; James N. Hauslein, '81 B.S. Engr., '84 MBA, Greenwich, Conn.; Denise P. Meridith, '73 B.S. CALS, Phoenix, Ariz. A brochure, which includes candidates' photos, statements and biographies, will be sent with the ballot in February to all alumni who can be reached by mail. If any constituency group -- e.g., college, class, club, affinity organization, etc. -- wishes to announce candidacies in any newsletter, publication, etc., it must announce the candidacies of all four. If photographs are used, photographs of all four must be published. Descriptive texts on candidates' qualifications or their participation in any Cornell activities are not to be used. English course: A noncredit, English-as-a-second-language course for visiting scholars is being offered from Feb. 2 through May 10 through the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions. The course is for those who seek improvement in any basic English language skills, with special emphasis on speaking and listening skills. Classes will meet in Room 158 of Goldwin Smith Hall on Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m. (time subject to change). The program fee is $450. Department authorization or a check or money order made payable to Cornell University in U.S. dollars for the full amount of the fee must be sent with the registration form. English classes: Registration for English-as-a-second-language classes, offered by the Cornell Campus Club, is Feb. 1 in the Anabel Taylor Hall cafe, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The registration fee is $10. Each student may register for three classes for one fee. Beginner, intermediate and advanced classes are offered. Classes begin Feb. 7 and end May 4.
