University Faculty Forum March 15 in Kennedy Hall will focus on students, teaching and learning

A University Faculty Forum, titled "Connecting with Students: Some Best Practices in Teaching and Learning at Cornell," will be held Wednesday, March 15, 4:30--6 p.m. in David L. Call Alumni Auditorium of Kennedy Hall. The forum is co-sponsored by Dean of the Faculty J. Robert Cooke and John Ford, the R.W. and E.C. Staley Dean of Students.

The focus of the forum, which will feature a panel made up of faculty and students, will be to find synergies between in- and out-of-class connections, especially with respect to large courses. As a product of the forum, it is expected that a "Best Practices in Teaching and Learning" publication will be created this semester to share and to celebrate the good things that are already happening on campus.

The faculty panelists, some of whom have participated in the university's Faculty Fellows/Faculty-In-Residence programs, are all Weiss Presidential Fellows. They are: Florence Berger, School of Hotel Administration; Ali Hadi, School of Industrial and Labor Relations; Dan Schwarz, Department of English, College of Arts and Sciences; and Charles Williamson, Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, College of Engineering. The student panelists are: student-elected trustee Katie Dealy '00 and Emanuel Tsourounis '00, president of the Student Assembly. Susan C. Piliero, associate professor of education and director of the Center for Learning and Teaching, will serve as forum moderator.

The forum is open to the community.
