Search by Cornell Police leads to the discovery of a missing person

Cornell University Police were contacted Monday, Jan. 22, at approximately 11 p.m. by university employees concerned about the disappearance of one of their associates. Members of Cornell Police, Cornell Environmental Health and Safety and the Ithaca Police Department began an investigation, and searches were conducted of localities on and around East Hill throughout the night.

At 8:36 a.m. today, a member of the Cornell Environmental Health and Safety team assisting in the search observed a body in the water at the base of Fall Creek gorge just west of Triphammer Bridge.

The body was recovered by members of the Ithaca Fire Department and Ithaca Police and was identified as the missing person. An investigation coordinated by the Ithaca Police Department is continuing.
