E. Linn Draper of American Electric Power to speak on deregulation and California electricity crisis April 23

E. Linn Draper Jr., chairman, president and chief executive of American Electric Power Co., one of the world's largest energy providers, will address the question "Did Deregulation Cause the California Electricity Crisis?" when he speaks at Cornell Monday, April 23.

Draper's talk, in the Energy Engineering Seminar Series sponsored by the Ward Center for Nuclear Sciences, will be at 4 p.m. in 203 Thurston Hall on campus. The talk is free and is open to the public; however, seating is limited.

American Electric Power, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, serves 4.9 million customers in Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. It also serves another 2.4 million customers in Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico and the United Kingdom and operates one of the United States' largest power trading businesses. In 2000 it had net income of $596 million.
