ITHACA, N.Y. -- To memorialize the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, several events on the Cornell University campus, free and open to the community, are slated for Thursday, Sept. 11.

A Sept. 11 commemoration at 12:30 p.m. in the Willard Straight Hall Memorial Room will include remarks from: undergraduate student Nick Linder '05, a government and economics major and president of the Student Assembly; Gavin Hurley, a graduate student in operations research and industrial engineering and president of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly; Kenneth Clarke, director of Cornell United Religious Work; and Cynthia Farina, professor of law. The Sage Chapel choir will perform during the event. Following the commemoration, music will be played on the Cornell Chimes from McGraw Tower.

Earlier in the day, at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, a moment of silence will be observed at 10 a.m. in the Dyson Atrium of Sage Hall, followed by a performance by the Sound Investments, an a cappella group. L. Joseph Thomas, Johnson School associate dean for academic affairs, and Nicholas H. Noyes, professor in manufacturing, will speak.

Cornell Law Professor Muna Ndulo will give a talk at 4 p.m. in G85 Myron Taylor Hall at the Law School, titled "Afghanistan: The War on Terrorism and Prospects for Peace and Democratic Governance." A reception will follow in the Myron Taylor foyer.

In addition, Sage Chapel will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. for personal prayer and quiet mediation; candles will be lit in the chapel throughout the day to honor those who died and those still struggling with the aftermath of the tragedy.
