Paul R. Bowser, professor of aquatic animal medicine at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine, has been honored with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service for "consistent superior service."

Bowser, who has been at Cornell since 1985, works on numerous educational research programs and outreach projects concerning aquatic animal health. He led, for example, the epidemiologic study and investigation of viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus in fish, an emerging disease affecting a wide variety of fish in New York's Great Lakes region and some inland lakes. He also recently has been working on the evaluation of new therapeutic compounds for use in fish culture, studying tumor viruses and botulism in fish and teaching aquatic animal health courses at Cornell. He also has coordinated many activities of the Cornell Aquatic Animal Health Program, including an educational program designed to train students and stimulate research.

Bowser earned his B.S. degree from Cornell, a master's degree from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. from Auburn University.
