New CALS major in agricultural sciences offered

A new major to give students "wide breadth with some depth" in issues related to agriculture and the environment is now available in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The major is for students who want an interdisciplinary education in the biological, social and economic foundations of agriculture for such careers related to food systems and natural resources as: production and marketing of plant or animal foods, agricultural education in secondary schools, organic farming, cooperative extension and crop consultation.

Students in the major must select a concentration in either animal science; applied economics and management; crop production and management; communication and education; or sustainable agriculture. They are also required to take at least one course on international agriculture and pursue an internship for credit, such as with a farm, nonprofit organization, greenhouse, cooperative extension, an agribusiness or even an international organization.
