Three ILR alumni to be honored with Groat, Alpern awards

Cornell's ILR School will present its highest honors for outstanding professional achievement and contributions to the school to three alumni: the Hon. Judge William B. Groat Alumni Award will go to Mark Brossman '75 and Robert Molofsky '72, and this year's Jerome Alpern Award goes to Rubén King-Shaw '83. The awards will be presented during ILR Celebration 2008 in New York City at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, March 27.

Brossman is a partner in the New York office of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP and is co-chair of its Employment Benefits Department. A member of the ILR School Advisory Council, he led the way for a major gift from the Carpentry Industry Promotion Fund. He regularly has ILR students filling internships at his law firm.

Molofsky is vice president/special counsel of the AFL-CIO Investment Trust Corp., where he manages the marketing for the $2.8 billion AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust. He has served two terms on the ILR School Advisory Council and is a Cornell adjunct professor, teaching Congressional procedure and public policy for ILR interns in Washington, D.C. He served several times as the chapter chair of the ILR Alumni Association in Washington, has hosted chapter events and has been an important part of the ILR School's credit internship program.

King-Shaw is chairman and CEO of Mansa Equity Partners Inc., private equity investors whose portfolio includes several health-care companies. He has served as a senior adviser to President George W. Bush and Treasury Secretary John W. Snow on domestic economic issues, including commercial insurance market reform and health-care tax credits. He serves on the ILR Advisory Council and the Cornell Council, has established an endowment fund to support the dean's diversity priorities and has served as a mentor for several ILR students.
