CU Hospital for Animals offers discounts for campus community
By Nancy Doolittle
The Cornell University Hospital for Animals offers Cornell faculty, staff and students a 10 percent discount on routine wellness visits, emergency care and some specialty services at the hospital's three facilities -- the Companion Animal Hospital, the Equine Hospital and the Farm Animal Hospital. The employee discount does not apply to ambulatory visits, diagnostic testing, pharmacy and clinical pathology charges.
The discount can be applied to as many as three animals that are personally owned. Individuals must register their animals to receive the discount. Registration forms, eligibility requirements and the complete policy are available at http://www.vet.cornell.edu/hospital/UniversityDiscount.pdf.
Offering discounted services to the university community, combined with Cornell's new offering of pet insurance, makes world-class veterinary care much more affordable for Cornellians, said Robert Gilbert, associate dean for clinical programs at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine.
More than 20,000 animals are treated annually at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. Veterinary students in the third and fourth years of their program, assisted by veterinary technicians and supervised by faculty veterinarians, examine and treat animals during scheduled appointments. Clinicians also visit farms within a 25- to 30-mile radius of Ithaca, treating almost 40,000 additional animals each year.
Cornell veterinarians provide routine health care, including physical examinations, vaccinations and treatment of minor illnesses. They also offers services in such specialties as anesthesiology, behavioral medicine, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, emergency medicine and intensive care, internal medicine, medical imaging, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, pain management, surgeries, wildlife and exotic animal medicine and some aspects of reproductive health.
