VanPool: New service provides vans for groups of commuters

Interested in finding a way to beat the high cost of commuting? Consider Commuter and Parking Services and TCAT's newest program, VanPool, at one of the information sessions slated for the last week of October.

In VanPooling, a van is provided to a group that has a volunteer driver, alternate drivers and other passengers. The group shares the cost of commuting, including monthly costs for the van and fuel. Groups can comprise participants from inside and outside the Cornell community. Cornell will subsidize program costs for eligible Cornell commuters.

The first information session will be held at Cornell's Energy Fair. Stop by the Commuter and Parking Services display in Barton Hall Oct. 27 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about the full range of money- and energy-saving commuting options.

Workshops specific to VanPool are scheduled for:

The workshops will include a presentation detailing the costs, benefits and incentives for eligible participants. A VanPool expert will be on hand to answer questions.

As with OmniRide and RideShare participants, any Cornell community member who joins VanPool will be eligible for a Cornell-paid membership in Ithaca Carshare.

Commuting information sessions for your office, department or division can be arranged by calling outreach coordinator Spring Buck at 255-1082 or sending e-mail to cb23@cornell.edu.
