Annual Employee Assembly elections are under way

Seven seats on the Employee Assembly are up for election, including one currently vacant seat and six seats held by incumbents. All candidates will ultimately be seated because the number of vacancies on the Assembly exceeds the total number of candidates by one. Incumbents Brian Cornell, Peter Korolov, Bill Liddick, Julie Magura, Inda Mahler and Pat Mahoney chose not to run.

In an effort to reduce costs and paper, the EA chose not to mail ballots to the entire employee community. Those who prefer to vote by written ballot can still obtain one from the Office of the Assemblies by calling 255-3715, e-mailing assembly@cornell.edu or visiting 109 Day Hall. Kits with election information and written ballots will be provided on request to any unit whose employees might not have regular access to computers or are otherwise unable to vote online.

Staff will also vote on a referendum on an extensive revision of the EA charter, the result of a comprehensive review this past year by an ad hoc committee of several EA members.

Proposed charter modifications would allow the EA to revise its charter in the future without holding such a referendum, removes a reconciliation process that the EA has never used, adds a provision for removal of members and modifies the language of the document for consistency.

Information can be obtained from http://assembly.cornell.edu/Elections/2009SpringEA. Employees can cast their vote online at: http://assembly.cornell.edu/vote.

All nonfaculty employees of the university can vote in the Employee Assembly election through 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 24. Results will be announced April 30.
