Stephen Pope receives fluid dynamics prize from APS

Stephen Pope, the Sibley College Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell, is the recipient of the 2009 Fluid Dynamics Prize from the American Physical Society.

The highest honor awarded by APS in fluid dynamics, the prize recognizes outstanding achievements over a career. The society cited Pope "for seminal contributions to the understanding and prediction of turbulent phenomena, especially the development of the [probability density function] approach for turbulent reacting flows."

Pope will give the Otto Laporte lecture at the annual meeting of the APS Division of Fluid Dynamics meeting in November and will be presented with the prize at that meeting.
