Campus serves as learning lab on Bring a Child to Work Day

For about 270 children, ages 8-16, April 22 on the Hill meant getting to pick two learning sessions from a suite of 40 -- from cookie decorating, horse care and video game demos to genes, planets, robots, money matters or cool chemistry. The occasion: this year's Bring a Child to Work Day, whose theme was "1 Youth, 1 Dream, 2Morrrow's Leader."

Held annually, Cornell's Bring a Child to Work Day provides an opportunity for children to visit the Cornell Ithaca campus, explore interests and careers through participation in activities, consider and discuss work-life balance issues and see what parents, relatives and/or friends do in their careers at Cornell.

"We have a great committee that puts this event together each year, made up of Helen Steh and Spring Buck from Transportation and Mail Services, Nancy Hinkley (Employment and Disability Institute), Kristen Ciferri (Education) and Julia Leonard (Computing and Communications Center)," said Cheryl McGraw, events coordinator in the Division of Human Resources. "We are grateful to the many people who volunteer to lead such a variety of learning sessions for Cornell's children. Thanks also to the staff from Cornell Dining for their support of this event."
