World Federation of Scientists honors particle physicist
Toichiro Kinoshita, Cornell's Goldwin Smith Professor of Physics Emeritus, has received the Gian Carlo Wick Gold Medal from the World Federation of Scientists.
The award goes to a theoretical physicist each year for outstanding contributions to particle physics. According to the citation, Kinoshita won "for his fundamental and very accurate calculations in quantum electrodynamics with deep consequences for physics of fundamental particles."
Toichiro, who joined the Cornell faculty in 1963 and became emeritus in 1995, has studied quantum field theory, particularly high-precision tests of quantum electrodynamics and the Standard Model of Physics. He has made use of such simple systems as the anomalous magnetic moments of the electron and muon, and the hyperfine structure of the muonium.
The World Federation of Scientists includes more than 10,000 scientists from 110 countries.
