Ergonomics Resource Center features model office furniture

The new Cornell Ergonomics Resource Center at East Hill Plaza showcases ergonomic furniture and equipment for improved health and productivity from manufacturers and distributors who are in Cornell's preferred vendor network.

"The center offers another dimension to our services, helping individuals to work healthfully and departments to make sound procurement decisions," said Todd Baker, lead ergonomics consultant for Cornell's Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Program.

Managers who are designing new office space can try out the latest chairs and experiment with ergonomic computer tools, including a sit/stand workstation, keyboard trays, keyboards, mice, adjustable monitor arms, document holders and task lights. Multiple workstation layouts are on display, helping departments determine their optimal configurations.

A variety of work gloves (including grip enhanced, anti-impact, anti-vibration and cut-resistant), kneepads, personal protective equipment, flooring, tools, laboratory materials and other modifications are available for employees who perform non-office work.

Baker encourages individuals to talk with their supervisors to get an ergonomic assessment of their workspace or equipment from his office before visiting the resource center.

"We can come to your work area and provide you and your supervisor with recommendations for improvements within a broad cost range," he said.

The center is located within the Sedgwick Business Interiors Ithaca showroom at East Hill Plaza, 379 Pine Tree Road.
