U.S. News & World Report ranks four CU programs in top 10

In its 2011 rankings, U.S. News and World Report ranks Cornell third in undergraduate engineering science/engineering physics programs at doctorate-granting schools and fifth in biological/agricultural engineering.

In other categories, Cornell ranks:

  • Sixth by high school guidance counselors;
  • Eighth for "Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs" at doctorate-granting engineering schools;
  • Ninth in economic diversity (measured by the percentage of undergraduates receiving Pell Grants);
  • 10th for "Best Undergraduate Business Program";
  • 10th among national universities in the "best value" category, "Great Schools, Great Prices"; and
  • 15th on the list of Best National Universities.

In addition, Cornell's Writing in the Disciplines program was listed in "Programs to Look For."

The 2011 rankings are published in 2010 and are largely based on data referencing 2008-09.

Among its peers in the top 20 of the rankings, peer assessment of Cornell's academic reputation is quite strong, at 92 on a scale topping at 100, said Marin Clarkberg, director for Cornell's Office of Institutional Research and Planning. Peer assessment comprises 22.5 percent of the ranking calculation, along with other factors including graduation rate, financial resources and SAT scores.
