Charioteer of Delphi is restored to its former glory

For years the charioteer of Delphi has presided over Goldwin Smith Hall from a niche at the building's entrance, but time worked its damage and eroded the once proud statue. Now this icon of Cornell's plaster cast collection has been restored to his former glory through the work of conservator Kasia Maroney and history of art professor Annetta Alexandridis.

The restored cast was unveiled at a ceremony Sept. 24 as part of the "Destroy the Copy!" workshop on the fate of plaster cast collections, organized by Alexandridis.

Also unveiled at the ceremony was a gift from archaeologist Lorenz Winkler-Horacek: a plaster cast of a Hellenistic sculpture of the head of a fisherman.
