Student parade, concerts, football highlight Homecoming

Featuring two student concerts and -- for the second year -- a student parade, Homecoming 2010 is continuing to broaden its offerings beyond the traditional alumni tailgating and Greek activities.

The weekend launches Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. with a welcome reception for alumni and chapter leadership within the Cornell fraternity and sorority community at the Weill Hall Atrium.

A concert, "A Cappella United," follows at 7 p.m. in Bailey Hall. The concert will feature performances by 13 of Cornell's a cappella groups and by recent graduates Kinetics (Jeremy Dussolliet '09) and One Love (Tim Sommers '10), the songwriters who penned B.o.B.'s Platinum-selling single "Airplanes." All proceeds will go to the United Way of Tompkins County. Tickets are $7 at http://www.BaileyTickets.com.

Homecoming road closures

The Homecoming parade and football game will close a portion of Campus Road and Garden Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 25, during the following times to assist with the parade route and parking for the football game:

• 8-10 a.m. -- Campus Road between Garden Avenue and Judd Falls Road;
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Campus Road between Hoy Road and Judd Falls Road;
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Garden Avenue between Campus Road and Tower Road.

Please adjust your travel accordingly and notify Facilities Services Customer Service at 255-5322 with any questions or concerns. For updates, visit http://www.cornell.edu/about/status.

On Sept. 25, the sorority and fraternity tailgates will begin at 10 a.m. in the Bartels Parking lot, across from the Crescent parking lot. The All Alumni Tailgate Rally Tent will open at 11 a.m. in the Crescent parking lot.

At 11:15, the student parade will start at Ho Plaza. Led by the Big Red Band, the parade will wend through campus, finishing at the Crescent parking lot. All student groups will be judged and awards given for best parade entries.

The parade precedes the Big Red vs. Yale football game at 12:30 p.m. on Schoellkopf Field. (Game tickets are $15; $12 for senior citizens; and $10 for Cornell staff, non-Cornell students and children under age 13, available at http://CornellBigRedTickets.com or by calling 607-254-BEAR. Cornell students get in free with Big Red Sports Pass, available online at https://sportspass.athletics.cornell.edu/)

Rounding out the day at 8 p.m. in Sage Chapel, the Cornell Glee Club, conducted by Scott Tucker, will perform "Cornell-California Connections," featuring premieres by David Conte and David Lefkowitz. The Glee Club will also perform works by Byron Adams and Joe Gregorio, concluding with the ever-popular Cornell songs. Admission: $5; available at Willard Straight Hall Ticket Office (255-3430).
