Former Treasury secretary Henry Paulson to speak Nov. 11

Former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson will present the 29th annual Hatfield Address Nov. 11.

The 5-6 p.m. presentation in Bailey Hall will be a conversation with President David J. Skorton in question-and-answer format. While on campus, Paulson will also attend a faculty luncheon hosted by President Emeritus Hunter R. Rawlings III and meet with selected undergraduate student leaders.

Paulson was chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs from 1999 to 2006 before serving as Secretary the Treasury under President George W. Bush, 2006-09. He was Bush's leading policy adviser on a range of domestic and international economic issues.

Prior to his 32-year career at Goldman Sachs, he was a member of the White House Domestic Council, serving as staff assistant to the president (1972-73) and to the assistant secretary of defense at the Pentagon (1970-72).

Paulson graduated from Dartmouth College (1968), where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and an All-Ivy, All East football player, and then earned a Harvard M.B.A. (1970). He published his first book in February, "On the Brink," detailing his experience at the Treasury during the global financial crisis.

The Hatfield Fellows Program is supported by the Robert S. Hatfield Fund for Economic Education, established in 1980 and administered by the president, who invites a distinguished business leader each year to meet with students and faculty and deliver an address.
