Hotel school announces IDeaS scholarship winners

The School of Hotel Administration (SHA) announced the second round of 2010 DeaS Cornell Revenue Management Scholarship winners Nov. 8. Recipients include Nuengruthia Thumwonk, revenue manager at Ascott International Management Limited Thailand; Sarah Kulik Blatsiotis, assistant front office manager at Smyth -- A Thompson Hotel; and Dana Miroshnichenko, revenue manager at Grand Hotel Europe.

The SHA's scholarship panel selected the recipients based on demonstrated excellence in revenue management and desire to enhance their profession. Each will receive paid registration to five eCornell courses leading to an eCornell Hotel Revenue Management Certificate.

According to a recent survey by the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research, hotel revenue managers will need to become more strategic, analytical and focused on overall hotel profit measures, said Tom Kline, executive director of the Cornell Office of Executive Education.

"The scholarship winners will benefit from revenue management courses that provide current research, relevant case studies and key strategies for advancing careers in revenue management," Kline said.

The scholarship program, funded by IDeaS, which provides pricing, forecasting and optimization solutions and services, offers hospitality professionals worldwide the opportunity to gain the online Revenue Management certification from Cornell.

"Scholarships provide hospitality professionals the means to accomplish our goals and become more valuable to the industry," said Blatsiotis. "I hope that the knowledge I obtain from the program not only assists me in achieving my professional aspirations, but also allows me to properly train those around me."

"The current economic situation reinforced the importance of revenue management. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to receive the in-depth knowledge and sophisticated techniques the program offers to gain a competitive advantage for my hotel," said Miroshnichenko.

The next application deadline for the IDeaS Cornell Online Revenue Management Scholarship is May 13, 2011.
