Student injured in morning skateboarding accident

Police are reporting that Justin Khalil, 19, a freshman in the College of Engineering from Seal Beach, Calif., lost control of his skateboard, ran through a stop sign, and collided with a garbage truck this morning at about 8:50 a.m. on Thurston Avenue, near the intersection with Cradit Farm Drive.

Khalil struck and slid under the truck, suffering injuries to his legs. Khalil was responsive when attended by medical personnel, and he was transported by Bangs ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

The investigation into the incident is being led by the Ithaca City Police Department assisted by Cornell Police, and charges are pending.
