Howard Evans to discuss his seminal dog anatomy book

Howard Evans, professor emeritus of veterinary and comparative anatomy, will discuss his book, "Miller's Anatomy of the Dog" (Elsevier, 4th edition, 2012), Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. in Mann Library's Stern Seminar Room (Room 160).

The book is a seminal text covering canine morphology with detailed descriptions, illustrations and updated material that reflects the latest knowledge on development, structure and function.

The new edition includes an introductory chapter with breed categories from American and British Registry Clubs, elaborate, full-color illustrations, the most up-to-date anatomical nomenclature and current text and bibliographic references.

As a reference, the book may be useful for anatomists, veterinary students, technicians, clinicians and breeders.

Evans taught such courses as dog anatomy, horse and cow anatomy, the anatomy of fish and birds, and natural history during his 36-year tenure at Cornell prior to his retirement in 1986. The book's co-author is Alexander de Lahunta, the James Law Professor Emeritus at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The book talk will include a question-and-answer session and is part of Mann Library's "Chats in the Stacks" series, funded by the Mary A. Morrison Public Education Fund.
