Architecture program regains top ranking in nation
By Daniel Aloi
The undergraduate architecture program in Cornell's College of Architecture, Art and Planning (AAP) has again been ranked No. 1 in the nation in “America's Best Architecture and Design Schools 2015,” published this month by DesignIntelligence.
Cornell’s M.Arch. professional graduate degree program (which began in 2004 and became accredited in 2009) was ranked fifth, and the graduate program in landscape architecture (in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) was No. 3, rankings they have both received for the third consecutive year.
The five-year B.Arch. undergraduate degree program at Cornell held the top spot in the DesignIntelligence rankings from 2005-2007 and 2009-2013, and was No. 2 in the 2008 and 2014 national survey of architecture schools.
The 15th annual survey, conducted in mid-2014 on behalf of the Design Futures Council, asked leading architecture and design professionals to name schools with the best undergraduate and graduate degree programs preparing students for professional practice.
DesignIntelligence surveyed a total of 1,426 professional practice organizations in four fields: architecture, industrial design, interior design and landscape architecture. More than 3,840 students in those fields also were surveyed on satisfaction with their programs, and academic deans and department chairs reported on programs they most admired.
In addition to national and regional rankings from the survey research, the DesignIntelligence report also includes articles on such topics as architecture and design careers, critical skills for 21st century designers, and teaching and research in architecture and planning as a foundation for creative practice.
