How do students apply for Summer Federal Work Study?
To qualify for Summer Federal Work Study, students must meet the following criteria:
- They have secured a paid position for summer 2020;
- They have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2020-2021 academic year demonstrating financial need;
- They intend to register full time for fall 2020; and
- They were registered full time for spring 2020.
If students meet the above criteria, they should complete the Summer Federal Work Study Application.
Some students are concerned about being able to meet summer savings expectations for financial aid. Will there be flexibility for summer 2020 given rising unemployment?
We recognize that the changing state of the economy may have an impact on students’ ability to work over the summer and save toward their financial aid contributions. University leadership is continuing to assess the situation.
What if students are concerned about contributing to their educational expenses for the upcoming year?
These are truly exceptional times and we know that the current conditions put financial stress on Cornell students and families. As our community responds to the impact of COVID-19, our staff is committed to working with our students. Students and families who are experiencing a change in income due to COVID-19 are encouraged to review the options for appealing. Appeal responses can take several weeks and typically require documentation (i.e., proof of unemployment).
