Hockett

Robert C. Hockett, Cornell professor of law, has been named a fellow of The Century Foundation, a progressive, nonpartisan think tank.

At the foundation, Hockett will develop ideas to enable average workers to gain a greater stake in the ownership of firms and to raise workers' incomes, which have not been keeping up with productivity improvements.

"Bob Hockett is a polymath who has a deep understanding of complex economic and legal issues. He also cares deeply about the human experience of inequality and, to understand that better, he has lived among homeless communities," said Janice Nittoli, president of The Century Foundation. "We are pleased to support his efforts to develop and promote strategies for closing the wealth gap."

Hockett researches organizational and financial law and economics, particularly as they relate to economic globalization and inequality. He is a co-author of a 2011 white paper, "The Way Forward," that has been credited with providing a clear explanation of issues that gave rise to today's global financial problems.

Hockett received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Kansas, his M.A. from Oxford University, and a master of law degree and doctor of science of law degree from Yale Law School. He has worked for the International Monetary Fund and clerked for the Hon. Deanell Reece Tacha, currently chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
