'GoGreener' TV show offers simple conservation tips

"GoGreener," a motivational PBS TV special that offers simple ways to save money and make the most of available resources, premiers this month on PBS stations in New York City and nationwide. Check local listings for day and time.

This one-hour program is hosted by 20-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Morry Alter, and Susan Cheng, an environmental educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension-New York City. Taped before a live audience, "GoGreener" aims to dispel myths that "going green" is difficult or requires a huge investment or major lifestyle change. The program identifies small changes in daily activities that can result in greater efficiency and significant savings, and demonstrates how these principles can be applied to areas such as:

  • Maximizing resources in the kitchen and stretching food dollars;
  • Saving on heating and A/C while maintaining comfort;
  • Using water effectively, making the most of this valuable resource;
  • Best practices for electric appliances and lighting;
  • Making the most of transportation options;
  • Chemical free cleaning;
  • Green gardening; and
  • Effective office practices.

Viewers who donate to public television during the show can receive an accompanying DVD and book.

The program is a Public Media Service production by Emmy-nominated PBS producer John Vernile, Peabody Award-winning producer Paul Chuffo and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning journalist Linda Sachs.
