The Institute of Politics and Global Affairs at Cornell will launch its “Inside Congress” series April 17 in New York City.

The first event, “Inside Congress: The Judiciary Committee,” will run 6:30-8 p.m. at the Lewis Davis Pavilion, 25 Waterside Plaza in Manhattan. It will be livestreamed on CornellCast.

Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee – including Chairman Jerrold Nadler and Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, and Ted Deutch and Val Demings of Florida – will discuss the committee’s agenda for the remainder of the current congressional session.

Upcoming speakers in the “Inside Congress” series include Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, the ranking Republican on the House Rules Committee.

“The nonpartisan ‘Inside Congress’ series will give Cornell students, faculty and alumni, and members of the public a behind-the-scenes look at some of our nation’s most pressing current challenges,” said Steve Israel, director of the Institute of Politics and Global Affairs and former representative from New York (2001-17), who will moderate the panel.

“With the Judiciary Committee regularly receiving news coverage,” Israel said, “I’m excited that the first of these conversations will welcome its majority members for a conversation that goes beyond the headlines and provides a real opportunity to delve into the important work the committee does.”
