CCE appoints human nutrition, food safety & obesity prevention lead

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) has named Dr. Angela Odoms-Young the critical issue lead for extension programming in the areas of human nutrition, food safety and security and obesity prevention, effective October 1. The appointment, envisioned as a two-year commitment, reflects CCE's dedication to leveraging campus resources and CCE educators and collaborators across the state, to ensure that needs are met and key metrics and benchmarks for educational work are identified.
Odoms-Young will continue with her role as the Schlegel Meinig Associate Professor of Maternal and Child Nutrition at Cornell University, and director of the Food and Nutrition Education in Communities Program and the New York State Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.
Odoms-Young's research focuses on the social and structural determinants of dietary behaviors and health outcomes, particularly in low-income populations and communities of color. She has served on numerous advisory committees, including the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Food and Nutrition Board, and has contributed to the development of nutrition standards for national programs such as the National School Lunch Program and the Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children.
